For fifty years, Michetti exhibited his work in West Coast galleries and museums. Michetti was director of the Society of Western Artists-- as well as art director of a major San Francisco commercial lithographic firm where he was considered an authority on color design for commercial uses. He gave lectures and wrote a booklet, Trade Harmony, about his theories. Michetti died in San Diego, CA in 1981.

Biography
Othello Michetti was born November 26, 1895 in Alanno, Abruzzi, Italy. He came to America with his family in 1905 and settled in New York, where he studied art with Frank Vincent DuMond and George Bridgman at the Art Students League-- later attending the Academy of Art. When he was twenty-one, he moved to San Francisco where he continued his art education at the Mark Hopkins Institute of Art and started painting watercolors. Othello and his wife Louise loved to travel, which brought them to many places-- Japan, Switzerland, France, Ireland, England, Mexico, and Italy to name a few-- places whose buildings, landscapes and people became subjects for his many watercolors. He also found much inspiration in the Western States: Alaska, Washington, Utah, and California.
This virtual gallery offers a nice sampling of Michetti's many watercolors. More will be added as time allows. I would like to extend a special thank you to Laura Michetti Long, who made these images available, and to Lillian Theis who helped with some of the biographical information (the first Michetti watercolor I ever saw is proudly displayed on her living room wall - and is the genesis for the enthusiasm that led to my creating this website).
